Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Why is this website mixing the English and Portuguese languages?
Portuguese is not the first language of the director of the course and some of the other professors; and English is, internationally, the common language in the area of interaction design. Therefore, like the course itself, this website will be a mix of Portuguese and English.

  2. What professions can I pursue after completing this course?
There are many different industries in which your combination of technical and creative competences are required. Take a look at the '[node:3,title="domain"]' page to get an idea of your future options.

  3. What are the requirements to enter this course?
The entry-requirements are the same as for all other courses at DME: Mathematics OR Mathematics + Physics.

  4. How many vacancies are there for the first year?
The course is part of the common-access group of DME and does not have vacancies by itself. The total number of vacancies for DME in 2008 was 132.

  5. In what language will the course be taught?
Many disciplines will be taught in Portuguese, but some are taught by foreign professors: these disciplines will be taught in English. Much of the study material, either prepared by the professors or prescribed in the form of books, will be in English too.

  6. Can I make a transition from another course?
In principle yes, if you comply with the entry-requirements. If you have not done the Math exam, you can also inscribe as extraordinary student while studying for the Math exam during the first year. Support for studying for this exam is available at DME.

  7. I have other, more general questions about studying at the University of Madeira...
