Geometria

Prof. José Castanheira

Keywords: Geometry principles, geometric representations, modelling, descriptive geometry.

Objectives of the discipline

We study the basic concepts of modern classical geometry using an algebraic approach, but always having in mind the fact that this discipline belongs to a degree in design. This means that computer methods will be used throughout the course, especially from the standpoint of the digital representation of 3 dimensional objects. The hope is that, by exploring this interaction between geometry and graphic representation, the basic concepts of geometry and the basic concepts of programming will come to a useful fruition.

Contents of the modules

  1. Some basic facts about: the software we will be using; the mathematical framework (numbers, mathematical models of the line, the plane and 3 dimensional space)
  2. The plane: straight lines; triangles; the concept of transformation; isometries; polygons; curves. Representation
  3. Three dimensional space: straight lines and planes; isometries; solids; curves in space; surfaces. Representation
  4. Descriptive geometry
  5. Movement
